MeSH (Medical Subject Headings) is the NLM controlled vocabulary thesaurus used for indexing articles for many medical and health sciences databases like PubMed, Cochrane, Joanna Briggs Institute (JBI), etc.

MeSH provides "true" meaning of a term especially when a word might be used in more than 1 context and increase the precision of your search. For example, if you are looking for articles relating to chewing problems. Searching using MeSH e.g. Mastication [MeSH] will retrieve relevant results pertaining to chewing issues for all articles pertaining to this topic but might have words indicated as mastication, chewing, grinding, parafunction, teething mentioned instead of chewing.

Using MeSH for searching will help retrieve content that matches the content rather than text.
