STEP 1

  • Sign in to Mendeley Reference Manager https://www.mendeley.com/
  • Select your citations/references from the Author column
  • Open the Export options
  • Save as Microsoft Word (*.xml)

STEP 2

Open a new Excel document…

  • Data tab
  • Get Data dropdown
    • From File
    • From XML
    • Choose & import XML file
    • Click on the file (not the folder)
    • Transform Data button
  • Close & Load dropdown
    • Close & Load To…
  • Import Data popup window
    • Select Table, New worksheet, OK

STEP 3

In your new Excel document…

  • highlight all references in the Title column
  • sort the references alphabetically
  • Home tab
    • Conditional Formatting dropdown
    • Highlight Cell Rules
    • Duplicate Values popup window
      • select how you wish this duplicates to appear & OK
  • Deal with any duplicates

If by chance there are any duplicates, it may be faster to go back and delete them in Mendeley rather than upload the file back into your Mendeley Reference Manager.
