Under Singapore copyright law, educational exceptions are mainly intended to support formal teaching and learning activities conducted by or under the authority of the University (e.g. formal lectures, tutorials, curriculum based instruction / projects). For student led activities, film screenings are not automatically considered educational simply because they are held on campus or involve students or faculty.

In general, whether a screening may be regarded as educational depends on the overall context of the activity, including its purpose and how it is conducted. For this reason, student societies are encouraged to clearly articulate the intent of their activities and to consult the relevant SIT office that oversees student clubs and events as part of the planning process (eg. OSE).
